110 acres (45 hectares) of the municipal park, conserved from the pre-2008 David Dunlap Observatory and Park, are now confirmed as destination green space in Richmond Hill, and will be supported by a $54 million budgetary allocation from the Town of Richmond Hill. We experienced a historic moment this last October 27th. We’re very pleased to say that Observatory Hill’s Grand Opening was an incredible success!

ALL THE PARK AMENITIES ARE JUST A CLICK AWAY

We have more exciting news! We’ve just launched a brand new Interactive Map of the David Dunlap Observatory Park. Not only will this new map allow you to browse all the incredible features the Park has to offer, but each feature also has its own unique video. Every impressive and noteworthy aspect of the DDO Park that you want to know about has been condensed into a short, entertaining video for your viewing pleasure.

Now, from the comfort of your desk, you can see exactly why this Park and the community of Observatory Hill itself is such a unique and desirable area. True to the Park’s approved Master Plan, a substantial portion of the available amenities makes use of the natural environment. Take a stroll, hike, or bike ride through the ample Woodland Trails, have a picnic on the Great Lawn or take the kids to the natural playground featuring astronomy-themed elements and recycled ash trees. Nature lovers will find lots to love about this revitalized park.

However, perhaps your interests tend more towards sports and exercise? If that’s the case, you’ll adore the 4-season skating trail, the tennis courts, and the Elvis Stojko Skating Arena. Go rollerskating, play some tennis, or just enjoy a recreational skate, you won’t ever be bored when the David Dunlap Observatory Park is practically in your backyard.

In addition to these activity-based amenities, the park will also receive renovation updates to all of the heritage sites including the Elms Lea Visitors Centre, the David Dunlap Observatory, and the renowned Administration Building.
